Cisco Sponsorship of the Rio Summer Olympic Games (GMR)

Cisco chartered a cruise ship (Silversea’s Silver Cloud) to act as a de facto hotel for the men’s and women’s USA basketball athletes, as the teams prefer not to use local hospitality outside of the country. Due to a shortage of hotels in Rio, this approach ended up being pure necessity.

Decor design and interior architecture was applied to hospitality spaces and common areas on the cruise ship, including captivating, large-scale athlete imagery and a museum-grade exhibit of historic olympic torches. The ship was crane-loaded in with three semi-trucks’ worth of materials in Lisbon, and the build took place during the 9-day journey across the Atlantic Ocean, arriving in Rio with a complete build to surprise and delight both the players the client, leaving a lasting impression for the Cisco brand.
